Inspector Maigret is called out to a small town in France to investigate an attempted murder of a man.
Shortly after he arrives a number of strange accidents occur, but no one is seriously hurt, that is until a man turns up dead, from apparent poisoning. During these occurrences a stray yellow dog keeps appearing and unbeknown to Maigret at the time, the dog may be the key element in solving the crime.
Georges Simenon, who died in 1989, was a prolific Belgian-French novelist.
