THE USUAL SUSPECTS is a collection of 18 Christmas-themed short stories.
I was familiar with the names of the authors presented in this short story collection though I had only read the novels of four of the authors.
Reading THE USUAL SUSPECTS was like opening a Whitman Sampler box of chocolates and trying to pick just one to eat and save the rest for another day. I could pick and choose any story in any order just like in a box of chocolates, but just like in a box of chocolates, I couldn’t pick just one.
I started with Sujata Massey’s story “Hairpin Holiday” set in 1920’s Bombay, featuring her new protagonist, Perveen Mistry, “Bombay’s First Girl Lawyer.” Then I read Ed Lin’s “Martin,” followed by Henry Chang’s “Bo Sau.” I couldn’t stop myself. I kept reading story after story until at last I finished the collection of stories and realized it was after two in the morning! Each story treated me to a satisfying Christmas crime caper.
THE USUAL SUSPECTS will appeal to a wide range of readers, including those who are familiar with the authors’ works and to readers who may not be...yet.
