A Merry Folger (
Reviewed by Shirley Wetzel
Weddings are stressful under normal circumstances, but add in a category 3 hurricane and things get really crazy. As a Nantucket police detective, Meredith “Merry” Folger has to help oversee emergency procedures throughout the area. As a bride-to-be, she has to batten down the hatches at her home and feed and shelter a houseful of wedding guests as the storm rages.
During the storm, a luxury yacht washes up on nearby Tuckernuck Island. The Coast Guard rescue team finds two people on board, suffering from gunshot wounds. One is dead and the other is in a coma. There’s also a fortune in heroin, and evidence that a third person, possibly a killer, is loose on Tuckernuck.
The evidence leads Merry and her team down a tangled and twisted road of mistaken identities, blatant lies, star-crossed lovers, and corruption in high places. Merry is a likable, resourceful, competent protagonist who can handle a wedding and a criminal investigation with equal skill. The New England setting and description of island history and culture add to the enjoyment of this police procedural. Recommended.
