THE LION is Nelson DeMille's latest John Corey novel. Corey is the wise-cracking retired NYPD and contract agent for the ATTF (Anti Terrorism Task Force), obviously modeled after the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). Corey first appeared in PLUM ISLAND (an excellent book in its own right), and in THE LION'S GAME, Corey spared with Libyan terrorist Assad Khali, known as the Lion. Khali was on a mission to kill the pilots who bombed Mommar Khadiffi's command, and also killed Khali's family, as well as to assassinate former President Reagan who ordered the airstrike. Corey foiled Khali's plans. But now, 9/11 has occurred, and Khali has come back. This time he wants to finish the job, and finish John Corey. What happens when the Terrorist Hunters become the hunted? And is The Lion back with another terrorism plot as well as his own vendetta? Of course, as Corey and his compatriots are targeted, John Corey begins a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the terrorist. I have to say that the final confrontation between Corey and The Lion was very unique and also very much a perfect setting for a showdown between enemies.

I listened to THE LION as an unabridged audiobook, and the reader Scot Brick captures John Corey's voice and vocal cadence perfectly. One of the added bonuses of the audio-book is an interview between Scott Brick and the author Nelson DeMille. If you're looking for an excellent thriller with a character who will have you laughing half of the time, and a villain who is relentless and scary then read (or listen to) THE LION.
