S. J. Rozan's Bill Smith and Lydia Chin mysteries are unique and interesting PI novels, mixing a traditional shamus, Bill Smith, with a female Asian sleuth who's more high-tech. Rozan also takes an interesting premise of alternating points of view from book to book.
STONE QUARRY moves the investigators from the Big Apple to the rural area of upstate New York. Bill Smith goes to his cabin in the wilderness for a much deserved rest. However, an artist with a secret she wants to remain hidden, asks Bill to retrieve some valuable stolen art canvases from her workshop. On top of that, a young man is charged with murder, and Bill Smith feels a loyalty to the young man and his family, so our Big City detective is well on his way to a rural mystery.
I thoroughly enjoy well-written rural mysteries, and this one is an outstanding read. I have to admit this is my first S. J. Rozan mystery, but it won't be my last to read.
