Rita Lucero travels to New Orleans to have her estranged husband Phillipe sign their divorce papers. While there, Phillipe is murdered and, although Rita doesn't want to believe so, everything points to someone in Phillipe's bakery to be the killer. Somebody has been trying to sabotage Zydeco (the bakery) and she decides to investigate upon the assumption that both incidents are related.
The writing style is very fluid, there is great character development, and the reading is overall nice and engaging. I loved her use of language, and I just think this was a great work for a series debut!
Other titles in this series include CAKE ON A HOT TIN ROOF, ARSENIC AND OLD CAKE, and THE CAKES OF WRATH.
