Shadow Wolf Mysteries:
Curse of the Full Moon Collector's Edition
Reviewed by Cherie Jung
Townsfolk in a small medieval city are frightened by a series of brutal attacks and the reported sightings of a wolf. Rumors begin to spread
that a werewolf is to blame for the attacks. The player is asked to help investigate. The most recent attack resulted in a woman gone
missing. The player arrives to find a frightened child crying for her missing mother.
Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Curse of the Full Moon begins as an investigation into the recent disappearance of Louise and
the recent attacks on the citizenry but quickly leads to murder and suspicions that all is not as it was represented by Gerard, the prefect
the player is supposed to be helping with the investigation.
The graphics are well done yielding an appropriate medieval feel to the game. The hidden objects on the various lists are also appropriate
for the time period which makes discovering them more fun and more satisfying than if modern versions of the objects had been imbedded
in the hidden object scenes. It also increases the difficulty of finding some of the objects. Thank goodness the hint button recharges
quickly in the untimed version! Also, since this is a collector's edition, the strategy guide is built in (and it keeps track of where you last
accessed the guide — yeah! — a big plus, I think). I would be completely lost without the strategy guide. I found the puzzles
fairly easy but fun. I like puzzles where things need to be slid around into the proper order, or similar items matched up. I just can't seem to
go from point "A" to point "B," as the designers intended, without getting sidetracked and going places or doing things out of order. I need
the strategy guide to get back on track from time to time.
As a special Collector's Edition this version has extras not found in the standard version, including bonus game play.
At 572.90 MB, the Full version game, was too large to fit on a CD so I downloaded the game directly from the website. I have dial-up
access to the internet so downloading directly from the website is slow but not difficult. If the connection is disrupted, the Big Fish website
resumes downloading from where the process left off. The list price is $19.99. I paid only $13.99 with an online discount. The Free 1-hour
sample version is 215.28 MB.
