Disclaimer: I used to live in Eugene, Oregon. One of my estranged step-brothers is (or was) an officer with the Oregon State Police, based in Eugene. I have never met the author.
This is the second book to feature Detective Wade Jackson, of the Eugene, Oregon Police Department. I somehow missed the first book in the series, THE SEX CLUB, but I'm going to remedy that the next time I'm in a bookstore.
Raina Hughes, a 20-year-old children's support advocate volunteer, is found brutally murdered. Suspicion falls on the ex-con father of the young boy she was assigned to monitor. He, of course, loudly proclaims his innocence. Detective Jackson is certain that the boy's father is responsible and sets out to prove it. During the investigation, Jackson suspects there may be a connection between Raina's murder and two recent rape cases in the area, yet can't find any connection between the victims.
This is a well-plotted, suspenseful crime story that will keep readers on a rollercoaster ride. The crimes are brutal and the reader will want justice for the victims yet they may be surprised when all of the secrets are revealed and guilt is established. The clues are all there for the careful reader to ponder. The author doesn't cheat the reader but with all the furious action, some readers may miss the all important clues that will reveal the perpetraitor(s). Not to worry, Detective Jackson is on the case.
