RING IN THE DEAD is a flashback to the early days of Beaumont's homicide detective career, fresh off of patrol. He and his new partner, Milton "Pickles" Gurkey are still in that awkward "getting to trust you" stage when a "dine and dash" case turns deadly and it brings the two cops to a critical juncture in their working relationship.
RING IN THE DEAD is a novella. It may be too short for some fans, but I think it was the perfect length for this story. (I love novellas!) Longtime fans will find nothing else to complain about. New readers to the J.P. Beaumont series will also enjoy RING IN THE DEAD and will, no doubt, be looking to read other books in the series.
Former Seattle Homicide Detective, J.P. Beaumont, has developed over the years (through some twenty novels) into a fan favorite, at the hands of J. A. Jance, for good reason. Jance's skill at storytelling is surpassed by few others mystery writers. Beau remains one of my all-time favorite characters.
