An Andy Carpenter Mystery (Book 16)

Reviewed by Cherie Jung
(September, 2018)

Andy Carpenter is a defense lawyer – semi-retired or “unsuccessfully retired” as he likes to put it. He would prefer to spend his time working for the Tara Foundation, his dog rescue organization, rather than in a courtroom. When the driver of a truck carrying rescue dogs is murdered, Andy wants to help the dogs but doesn’t want to defend the man accused of the crime, his wife’s former fiancé, a good-looking ex-Marine.

Okay, I admit. I couldn’t resist this book because the cover has cute puppies on it, but that’s not the only reason I was attracted to this book. I’ve read a previous Andy Carpenter mystery (DOG TAGS) and I enjoy the author’s writing style; engaging plots, twists and turns, compelling storyline, sense of humor, memorable characters and oh, yes, in real life, he rescues dogs.

Readers new to the series will fall in love with Andy within a few pages. Long-time fans will be delighted, too.  RESCUED is a worthy addition to the series. The author’s skill for combining suspenseful elements with a tightly woven plot will leave readers clamoring for the next Andy Carpenter book.

RESCUED will appeal to dog and animal lovers, of course, but it will also appeal to readers who just like a good, snappy mystery.
