PICTURE OF INNOCENCE

Detective Superintendent Case pressures Chief Inspector Lloyd to assign someone of importance to investigate the odd occurrences his lodge mate, Bernard Bailey, has been complaining to him about. Bailey insists someone is tresspassing on his well-secured land, leaving death threats. And as Bailey has pointed out to Case, "if he can deliver death threats, he can deliver death."
Bernard Bailey is a farmer that many people wish dead. He has been receiving death threats for many months. Now it is up to Chief Inspector Lloyd to discover who this man's real enemies are.
First on the list...the first wife who had failed to give him the son he so desperately needed? He had been willed an inheritance but could not collect on it until he produced a male child to carry on the family name.
Was it the adult daughter who had suffered horribly at his abusive hands because she was not the son he desired?
Or was it his sexy, new wife who had entered into a contract to produce his much desired son?
Or could the threat be someone completely outside this strange family?
While struggling to unravel this mystery, Lloyd and Hill (Detective Inspector Judy Hill, that is) must also struggle with their developing personal relationship.
This is a wonderful British mystery with an amazing group of characters that are as complex as they are varied and strange.
