Alex Rider Spy series (Book #11)

Review by Larry Jung
(June, 2018)

It’s only 5 weeks since Alex Rider’s mission (SCORPIA RISING) against the global criminal organization SCORIPA.  SCORPIA stands for Sabotage Corruption Intelligence Assassination, a completely ruthless group of super criminals who have no compulsion to harm and kill thousands for money. Now living in San Francisco, CA and no longer working for the British Secret Service (MI6), Alex is having difficulties adjusting to a normal life. His previous life as a spy still haunts his nights.

Then a cry for help comes from an impossible source that thrusts Alex Rider back into the dangerous secret world of espionage and assassins.

This time it is personal and along the way, Alex will meet old enemies and old friends. Alex Rider has just turned 15.

NEVER SAY DIE is the 11th book in the Alex Rider Spy series. The adventures of the teenage spy for MI6 have captured the imagination of young adult readers since the first book STORMBREAKER (2000). The story of NEVER SAY DIE is high-adventure and escapism at their best.

The pace is breathless as Alex Rider runs from assassins and hides from the Secret Services of 2 countries. The settings takes the reader from San Francisco in the United States to the seedy side of Cairo in Egypt; from Saint Tropez on the French Rivera to Alex Rider’s hometown of London, England. Along the way, there are the devilish story twists that are the hallmark of this series.

NEVER SAY DIE is a worthy addition to the Alex Rider adventures.

Though marketed to young adults, like the Harry Potter books, NEVER SAY DIE can be enjoyed at any age, the writing is so good. If you are a fan of Ian Fleming’s James Bond thrillers give this series a try. In many ways Alex Rider is a younger version of James Bond.

Note: The Alex Rider adventures are connected narratives. Though any of the books can be read as standalone stories, it is recommended to read the books in chronological order starting with STORMBEAKER.
