Christmas in July anyone?

Although published in time for Christmas last year, I didn’t get to it until last week…but I don’t mind reading books “out of season,” as it were.

Rita Lafitte is a chef and one of the amigas at Tres Amigas Café in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is the holiday season and her mother is visiting, though none too happy about it. Christmas should be spent at her mother’s, following the timetable and customs established long ago by her mother. (Rita’s mom reminded me strongly of my own mother.)

When a dead actor is discovered at an outdoor Christmas play, the prime suspect is Santa, his Santa suit covered in blood. Rita tries to resist sleuthing – it would annoy her mom – but she can’t resist when the accused Santa’s wife seeks help and points out that Rita’s teenage daughter Celia, who is also in the play, might also be in danger.

This is a quick, fun read…even in the summertime.

Other books in this series: BREAD OF THE DEAD, CINCO DE MAYHEM.
