To say that Skylar’s childhood was an unhappy one would be a massive understatement. Her father died eight months before she was born; she lost her mother to alcohol, drugs and despair. The wealthy paternal grandfather who took her in was a man of few words. The words he did speak to her were usually angry or critical. She defied him as he became increasingly strict and controlling, finally riding off on a stolen motorcycle into an uncertain future.
The next few years were rough, but she rediscovered her love of flying. By the time she was twenty-one, she was a top-notch stunt flyer. Jake was her partner in flying and in love. Life was good at last. Then one bright afternoon, her world turned upside down. Her plane was caught in a freak storm, but she was able to land safely, guided by an unknown voice. The airfield she returned to looked almost the same, but not quite. For one thing, the date on the poster advertising the air show was off by more than two decades. Then things got weird.
She fought against the obvious, but eventually she faced the facts: she had traveled back in time, before her birth. She’d been given a chance to change her future, but the universe put a lot of obstacles in her path.
In her notes, Ms. McFarren remarked that she has always loved everything to do with flying, and knew that eventually she would write a novel about it. When her popular Threads … series was complete, she decided to combine that love with other genres. HIGH FLYING is a delightful combination of adventure, romance, and time travel.
