It is a pleasure to see a spin off of Inspector Morse, set once again in Oxford. Lewis, Morse's sidekick is now older, and a little more cynical of the world around him, having lost his wife to a hit and run driver. He is back in Oxford after having been away for two years, and he is doing what he knows best, being a copper. Lewis is now a Detective Inspector, and his junior is Detective Sergeant Hathaway.

Ironically, in this series, the roles of the detectives are reversed, in respect to education. DS Hathaway studied theology at Cambridge and is well versed in Latin.

Lewis and Hathaway may seem like an odd couple, but they work well together. Their boss, Chief Superintendent Innocent, played by Rebecca Front, is a rather pushy woman, with whom Lewis doesn't see eye to eye. In fact, in one of the episodes entitled, "Old School Ties," Chief Superintendent Innocent orders Lewis to attend a party, as her escort. Talk about taking liberties as a boss!

The series has a lot of potential, and if the writers take it in the right direction, it could prove to be a hit, like its predecessor, Inspector Morse.
