WHERE THE BODIES ARE BURIED: a Jeri Howard mystery
By Janet Dawson

Oakland private investigator, Jeri Howard has a thriving business. She thinks nothing of it when a young paralegal , Rob Lawter, comes into her office and pays a retainer fee on a case he may want investigated. He does not give her many particulars and goes on his way. The next day, Rob is dead after falling through a window in his apartment. Although Jeri knows nothing of the case she feels that she owes it to her now dead client to investigate. All she has to go on is the fact that Rob was a paralegal in a food processing plant and he had received a threatening note shortly before his death.
What did Rob know that was important enough to kill for? In order to find out Jeri takes a secretarial job in the firm's legal department in order to be able to snoop around. Soon she finds that there is more than one reason to try to keep a paralegal quite. There are several things in the works and Jeri must find out which one is the secret Rob knew before someone discovers what she is up to.
I enjoyed this book although I must say that the legal and secretarial part of the book often seemed long at times. I am now well aware of food processing laws, office politics, and secret affairs in an office.
Other titles in this series include: KINDRED CRIMES, WITNESS TO EVIL, TILL THE OLD MEN DIE, DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON THE OCEAN, A CREDIBLE THREAT, NOBODY'S CHILD, and TAKE A NUMBER.
