An Iris House B & B Mystery
By Jean Hager
Avon Books, 1998, $5.99
Reviewed by Sue Johnson
Tess, the owner of a local Bed and Breakfast named Iris House finds time on her hands during the off tourist season. To fill this time she volunteers at the local senior citizen center and soon finds herself confronted, with a petty, hateful, mean-spirited old woman named Edwina Riley.
Edwina seems to have made enemies of everyone at the senior citizen center. So no one is overly sad when Edwina makes an appearance at the daily quilting class and then dies shortly after.
But liked or not, Tess cannot abide murder and soon finds herself hip deep in the tangled lives and death of the Center's many characters.
This book was truly in the nature of a good cozy. I found myself reaching for it even when I only had five or ten minutes to read. I had figured out the killer's identity within the last fifty pages but had no idea what the motive was.
I enjoyed the characters and the Bed and Breakfast setting. Also included in the book were several good recipes for meals served either at Iris House or at a covered dish meal at the center.
