Mystery Case Files: Huntsville

I thought I had a pretty keen eye for detail but the hidden objects in the MCF: Huntsville game were really quite a challenge. Coupled with the pressure of a timed game (no relaxed mode is offered) I found myself more than once running out of time without solving the "case." Not to worry, the games can be replayed with new clues. Personally, I would have liked a little more time allotted for each phase of the game or a relaxed mode option. I like to take my time, explore, and enjoy the scene not just rush through it grabbing hidden objects from the list. I would also have liked a faster response time between finding a hidden object and clicking on it, to remove it from the list, and the ability to click on the next item from the list. The wait time required before for clicking on the next item is allowed seemed very slow to me. Several times I clicked on a listed item only to discover later that the item had not been erased from the list because I had clicked on it too soon — before the previous item had been completely acknowledged and removed from the list of objects to find. A small annoyance, to be sure, but I never managed to adapt to the sluggish speed with which the discovered objects were removed from the game.

Overall, MCF: Huntsville is a fast paced, light-hearted fun romp through a small town bursting with crime. The solution of the crime puzzles — click and swap squares to reveal each crime scene complete with the guilty party — are challenging but not too difficult.

There were 15 cases to solve in 20 different locations. My only real complaint is that there is no "relaxed mode," only the timed mode which leaves the player little time to enjoy the artwork and graphics in the need to rush to identify the hidden objects and move on before time runs out and one must begin again.

The game price is listed at $9.99 but may cost less depending on various available discounts. I paid only $6.99 for the game.
