MRS. PARGETER'S POINT OF HONOUR
By Simon Brett

Scribner, Hardcover, 208 pages. October, 1999

Reviewed by Shirley H. Wetzel

The late Mr. Pargeter left his widow well-provided for materially, and while his business practices may not have always been on the up-and-up, his sense of honor and fair dealing earned him the intense loyalty of his associates. This loyalty has passed on to Mrs. P., and it comes in very handy when she is called upon to help the widow of one of his colleagues in crime.

Veronica Chastaigne of Chastaigne Varleigh is on her death bed and wants to see that the fabulous art collection her husband "borrowed" from various museums and private owners is returned, without the recipients knowing where the paintings have been or how they were returned. This stealing in reverse is something new to Mr. Pargeter's old associates, but they enthusiastically leap to the task. Nothing is too much to ask from their old friend's lady. The plot to return the paintings develops a hitch but the colorful band of rogues are up to the task.

Other books in this series include: MRS. PARGETER'S PLOT, MRS. PARGETER'S PACKAGE, and MRS. PARGETER'S POUND OF FLESH.
