The curse! The curse!

Charles Baskerville is the latest victim to have succumbed to the Baskerville curse. It is said a demonic hound has, through the years, preyed on the Baskerville family and continues to do so, in this centuries-old curse! Now, Henry Baskerville seeks the assistance of Sherlock Holmes to break the curse, before he, Sir Henry, becomes its next victim! The player will travel to legendary Baskerville Hall and attempt to discover what is really going on and what the mysterious Hound of the Baskervilles is after.

This is a traditional style Hidden Object/Puzzle Adventure game, featuring Sherlock Holmes and the baffling case of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

The Collector's Edition includes bonus game play, a mini-game gallery, In-game strategy guide and more. For me, I prefer the Collector's editions because I prefer in-game strategy guides. My slow dial-up access to the internet makes checking an online source for hints slow and tiresome.

Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles Collector's Edition quickly became one of my favorite games. The visual appeal of the game is outstanding! There are plenty of hidden object scenes and lots of places to explore. Finding some objects outside of the special hidden object scenes requires use of items from the inventory and/or other actions. Challenging but fun. The puzzles were also challenging but fun.

In general, I sometimes run into a bit of trouble with puzzles that require a lengthy or intricate pattern to be resolved for the solution. I frequently "get the idea" of what needs to be done in order to solve the puzzle but can't quite finish it correctly or...I "get the idea" but the puzzle seems to solve itself without my having completed the steps necessary to solve the puzzle properly. I sometimes think the puzzle tires of my random clicking and just gives it to me. Or have I somehow randomly clicked the correct sequence by accident? I can't quite decide which it is, but when the puzzle says it's solved and gives me the prize item, that's good enough for me!

I also enjoyed the game designers' giving me hints about where to go (a map is supplied and a simple click takes the player where ever they choose), if there is something to do in a particular area (indicated on the map), and if I'm completely done in a certain area or room, the game indicates such. No need to get lost, wander around with no idea where to go next or what to do. Remember, I'm playing in the relaxed, or untimed mode. Those playing the more difficult version won't have quite as much assistance.

For those who choose the Collector's Edition, the extended game play is quite interesting and seems nearly as long as the original game.

I love this game! I'm already playing it for a second time.

A word of warning: There are several Sherlock Holmes related games. I strongly urge players to make use of the free trial period on each Sherlock Holmes game before purchasing the game. The free trial affords the player an opportunity to test the game both for compatibility with their computer system and for whether or not the game will be enjoyable to the player. "Hidden object game" covers a wide range of styles. There are games with hidden object scenes where the player is given a list of items to locate within the scene; games that are more adventure/scavenger hunt, and games that are a combination of both. There are many other factors that may contribute to the enjoyment or displeasure of playing each game. Best to use the free trial period to experience it for yourself.

The Full version game, at 323.80 MB, was too large for me to download in a reasonable length of time (It would take me nearly three days to download it!) so I opted to pay an additional fee and have the game sent to me on a CD. The list price is $19.99. I paid only $13.99 with an online discount. The free Trial size version of the game is 161.86 MB.
