Bailey Ruth Braeburn, a very spirited spirit, is ready for another adventure — er, humanitarian mission back on Earth, but her previous deviations from the rules of Heaven's Department of Good Intentions has her grounded for a while. She is surprised, and pleased, to get an emergency call, delivered by a ghost on a black horse, and of course she hops on the first Rescue Express train back to her hometown.

The first indication that something is not quite right is her train ticket to Adelaide, Oklahoma. The conductor questions its authenticity, but grudgingly takes her where she wants to go. She is uneasy that Wiggins, the head of the department, has given her no instructions: in fact, she can't manage to reach him at all. She only has the garbled message from the ghostly rider to go on. Something about a young man in trouble. Loud music leads her to Nick, who is indeed in trouble, woman trouble. Shortly after two young women stalk out of his house, Bailey Ruth, who'd remained invisible as the rules require, commits a few more rule infractions to save his life.

Bailey Ruth finds out that being of the world is more exciting, and far more dangerous, than being on the world. She will be able to assure Wiggins that she will never make this mistake again — if she ever makes it back to Heaven. She loves her hometown, but she never planned to spend eternity there.

In the meantime, she does her best to protect the young man from harm, both physical and emotional, solve a murder or two, and figure out what, in this small, quiet town, is worth killing for. Is it love, sex, money, or all of the above?

Carolyn Hart has another winner with Bailey Ruth and her fantastic and heavenly world. Bailey Ruth is not a perfect angel, but her heart is in the right place, and she has plenty of spirit to match her fiery red hair. This is another enjoyable read.

The scheduled publication release date for the paperback edition of this book is October 7, 2014. It is currently available for pre-order.
