Publicity information indicated THE FOG LADIES is a “debut, cozy caper.” The log line… “Several residents of a much-sought-after San Francisco Pacific Heights apartment building die under mysterious circumstances…” intrigued me.

When elderly ladies die in their Pacific Heights San Francisco apartment building, Sarah James, a tired and overworked medical intern who also resides in the building, assumes the deaths are simply from growing old. The Fog Ladies think it’s something more sinister, murder.

I wanted to like this book. After all, I lived for several years in San Francisco, in the 1970s, near Pacific Heights. I worked in several of the San Francisco hospitals.

Though I understand the author was trying to increase the tension and sense of foreboding, I was disappointed in the way the story unfolded. There were plenty of plausible suspects however the killer was obvious to me, as was the motive for the murders, as soon as the character (killer) was introduced. I found the resolutions of various plot points and complications unsatisfactory.

My disappointments aside, I am certain many readers and fans of cozies will find THE FOG LADIES a quick and fun read.
