The discovery of charred human remains in an abandoned warehouse causes questions to resurface for Detective Inspector Irene Huss. The current case could shed light on a disturbing case from early in the detective's career.
The author does an admirable job of character development, pacing, and making sure the reader gets a real sense of the setting. This is only the second book that I've read from this series. The first I read was NIGHT ROUNDS, which I felt to be a more compelling tale, but that's just my personal preference. I think long-time fans of Tursten will be more than satisfied with THE FIRE DANCE. I don't think many readers new to the series will be disappointed either.
Tursten's Irene Huss character is a wife and mother, a jiu-jitsu champion, and the lead of the Goteborg Murder Squad. The character will appeal to readers who like a strong, hardboiled female protagonist. THE FIRE DANCE is the sixth investigation featuring the Swedish detective. Other titles in the series include: DETECTIVE INSPECTOR HUSS, THE TORSO, THE GLASS DEVIL, NIGHT ROUNDS, and THE GOLDEN CALF.
