This is the third novel featuring FBI profiler Sophie Anderson but the first I've read. In this case, crime writers are receiving chilling fan letters before they are murdered. Sophie must use their fiction to catch a killer who is also tied to an unsolved case from her past.
Two aspects of the book may put some readers off. The first is that Sophie has visions or premonitions while working on cases. The second is that the author writes in first person narrative. I've read and enjoyed other first person narrative books but something about the writing in FAN MAIL put me off. I was midway through the book before I was able to ignore the intrusiveness of the writing style. The plot was okay but not original enough to make it an outstanding story.
Fans of the series may enjoy the book more than I did. It is a quick read, so if you can get past the writing style, you may find the book interesting enough for an afternoon's entertainment.
Other titles in this series are BODY COUNT and THE MURDERER'S CLUB.
