Trade Ellis is a ranch owner in La Ciengna, Arizona. She is also part Apache and a licensed private eye. Most of Trade's cases are simple philandering husbands or insurance fraud. That is until the upcoming reunion of her high school class seems to have upset someone. Someone seems to be killing off the cheerleaders also known as "The Song Dogs' of Javelina High.

When two of the remaining Song Dogs come to Trade asking for her to take their case she is hesitant. Is she ready for a case of this magnitude. Her uncle, the sheriff, does not seem to think so and his opinion makes her all the more determined.

Not long into the investigation Trade finds herself on the killer's list.

This author has a fine sense of the Southwest, a working ranch, and the Apache Indian people. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in this series. THE LAST SONG DOGS is a great read for an author's debut novel.
