A Susan Wiles Schoolhouse Mystery (Book 8)
Reviewed by Cherie Jung
This series features Susan Wiles, a retired teacher.
After attending an open house at the Westbrook Charter School where she worked as a volunteer in a fourth grade classroom, Susan Wiles was trying to cover the last few miles on the winding mountain road to her home but she was feeling drowsy, nearly nodding off at the wheel. It was late at night. She chided herself for allowing her mind to wander while driving. Suddenly she was jolted when something impacted the hood of her car. A deer? No, a woman.
Susan calls her daughter in a panic. Her daughter, Lynette, is a detective who arrives at the scene and strongly advises Susan not to make any statements without a lawyer.
This is the first book of this series that I’ve read. I enjoyed reading it. I especially liked that Susan Wiles is an older woman, a retired teacher, who is smart, likeable, and very good at getting to the truth, resolving the dilemma of who really killed the woman in the road and why.
