Dr. Jan Garavaglia was the Chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties in Florida. She relies on her extensive medical training and experience to explore unexplained deaths and determine exactly what happened to cause her patients’ deaths. Some are accidental, some are determined to be criminal, and of course, some are natural.
This series might appeal to crime and mystery fans who want a little more background or general awareness of causes of death. The autopsy scenes are dramatized and not too graphic, though the recreations of some medical conditions such as maggots, gangrene, or brutal beatings do look very life-like – or death-like.
DR. G: Medical Examiner first aired in July, 2004 on the Discovery Health Channel and ran until 2012. Repeats of the show are aired on the Discovery Life Channel and Justice Network. Dr. G: Medical Examiner is also available for viewing and streaming on several sites including... reelgood.com, Netflix. Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney plus, HBO, and YouTube.
In 2008, Dr. Garavaglia authored HOW NOT TO DIE: Surprising Lessons from America's Favorite Medical Examiner to educate readers how to better care for their health and avoid premature death based on some of her own experiences as a medical examiner.
