STEALING THE DRAGON: A Cape Weathers Investigation

Another "ripped from the headlines" premise... A container ship loaded with illegal Chinese immigrants runs aground on Alcatraz Island. The crew all dead. The suspect list? Almost unlimited. Enter Cape Weathers, a former cop turned private eye, who suspects it was a professional hit. Something his friend, Sally, a trained assassin might have had a hand in. That makes it personal. Especially since Sally is missing.
Next stop? San Francisco's Chinatown.
It's hard to believe that this is the first book for author Tim Maleeny, but it's a fun and exciting read, just the same. The author knows his way around Chinatown, and has captured the feel of the place without making the reader feel as if they are reading a guidebook.
STEALING THE DRAGON combines the intrigue of a suspense thriller with elements of the traditional P.I. story in a way that works, most of the time. There are a few rough edges but nothing worth complaining about. I look forward to future cases involving Cape Weathers.
