A Cuban Mystery

When Matt arrives in Havana, Cuba he expects to be met by his fiancée Yarmila, but she is nowhere to be found at the airport. Nor is she answering her phone. A fellow traveler’s Cuban boyfriend suggests she just got tired of waiting and went back home. The plane’s arrival had been delayed by over an hour. Matt reluctantly accepts a ride to Yarmi’s apartment.

The setting is Havana, Cuba in 2003. Matt is a San Diego journalist. His girlfriend, Yarmila, is a 24- year-old Cuban woman he met through her popular food blog, “Yarmi Cooks Cuban.”

Matt quickly becomes involved in more than he bargained for.

Yarmi is indeed at her apartment…dead. Matt becomes the prime suspect. He sets out to clear his name through his own investigation of her death because he is convinced the police are not all that keen on clearing him.

Part travelogue, part adventure, part culinary treat DEATH COMES IN THROUGH THE KITCHEN will entice readers and leave them wanting more from this author. Her writing style is breezy and moves the story along quite well. The on-going storyline and investigation of Yarmi’s death is interspersed with examples from her blog. The recipes included in the blogs will have readers hankering for at least a snack. I have tasted merenguitos (meringue puffs) and loved them. However, I’ve never mastered making them. My touch with making meringue is too heavy handed I guess.
