I like a sassy protagonist and Cauley MacKinnon fits the bill. She's known as the "Obituary Babe" although she really would prefer to be taken more seriously as a "real" journalist. Trouble is, she has a way of plunging into situations that keep her at the obit desk. This time out, she pens a fake obituary to protect a federal witness who is gunned down anyway, before he can testify. As the funeral notices pile up on her desk, Cauley is more interested in the rumors of a feud between Texas crime mobs, a missing girl, and sorting out her love life.
I don't particularly like the marketing term "chick-lit" but this series falls into that category. If you like Harley Jane Kozak, Lori Avacato, Jennifer Colt, or Casey Daniels, just to name a few authors, you will probably like this series.
This is the second book in the series. SCOOP was the first. Now I'm going to have to make more room on my bookshelf because this is a series that I want to follow.
