Inola Walela is a Native American cop who is constantly trying to prove her worth to her police department colleagues in Bryson City, North Carolina. She's intelligent, tough, focused and stubborn. All qualities a female protagonist needs these days.

Two people are after one young boy. The father, who wants his son back from his ex-wife at all costs and Walela who is determined to protect the boy from his father and nearly runs afoul of the law herself, possibly jeopardizing her career.

Personally, I didn't like the author's writing style. That shouldn't worry the author though. I also don't like Robert B. Parker's writing style (and my dislike hasn't hurt his sales any!). Both Ledford and Parker have something in common that I do like; the basic stories. Both authors clearly know how to tell an intriguing story. And both authors clearly have many devoted fans.

CRESCENDO is the third title in this psychological suspense/thriller series. STACCATO (2009) and SNARE (2010) were the first two.

For this review, I read the e-book version. I have, however, read numerous rave reviews of the audio version, narrated by renowned actress Christina Cox. I think I might try the audio version.
