"THE MINORS..."
CONTEST RULES:
Each story must contain the following two elements in an integral and meaningful, rather than gratuitous, way.
Each story must contain something about a traditional, but minor holiday. For example, April Fool's Day, Groundhog's Days, Earth Day, May Day... Each story must contain a crime that is intregal to the holiday. The contest is open to all writers, published and non-published.
The work must be original and unpublished (a manuscript is considered published even if it was only posted on a personal website).
Maximum word count is 4,000. Anything over will be automatically disqualified. (I'm not kidding so don't submit any 8,000 word short stories!)
Entries may be submitted via email, or "snail" mail. For electronic submissions, please query first. Don't just send the manuscript unannounced or it may be considered "spam" or "dangerous" by our computer and be unceremoniously dumped in the recycling basket. For "snail" mail, please send your manuscript to Over My Dead Body!, P.O. Box 1778, Auburn, WA 98071-1778. Please mark "contest" on the outside of the envelope.
Deadline for entries: April 15, 2006. (postmark or email date)
At the end of the contest all manuscripts will be destroyed. None will be returned. (So save your S.A.S.E.)
Winner(s) will be announced and the winning stories will be published online (here at the website) on April 17.
Hint: Although entries need to contain the two elements -- the stories do not have to be murder mysteries. There are other types of crimes that will do nicely.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, the next contest will have something to do with Mother's Day, and the one after that, Father's Day. Check back later for more details and entry deadlines.
