CHA is a quick, intriguing read. Set in Hong Kong, the lives of two women collide in an unexpected way. One is Hong Kong Detective Inspector Mary Lau, assigned to investigate the death of a male passenger, who died on an incoming flight from the United States. The other is Gloria de la Mora, the wife of the dead passenger. She and her husband and their young son were travelling to Hong Kong to participate as contestants in a popular televised dance competition. The investigator’s instincts tell her there is something fishy about the death.

The plot unfolds in alternating chapters from each of the womens viewpoints. While this structure may cause some readers to hesitate – and I admit I was leery at first, too – the writing is so well polished that the intertwining of the two perspectives enhances the dynamics of the story and compels the reader to plunge into the story without the technique becoming a distraction.

I think CHA will appeal to a wide range of readers.
