A Latouche County Mystery (Book 4)

First off, I love books with a cast of characters included! Second, I love the Columbia River Gorge setting.
CALL DOWN THE HAWK is a complex tale involving two seemingly dysfunctional families, the Houghs (pronounced “Hawk”) and the Augusts. William Hough apparently committed suicide recently. Frank August is a wealthy retired banker from California who goes missing. Undersheriff Rob Neill tries to sort out the details.
The Houghs and the Augusts have adjoining properties along the Columbia River Gorge, the Washington side, in the Pacific Northwest. William and Frank didn’t get along.
This is the first book in this series that I’ve read, so I had no idea which, if any, of the characters had been carried over from previous books in the series. Though there were numerous characters introduced in the opening chapters, I had no difficulty figuring out who was who… plus as I mentioned, the author provided a cast of characters and their various relationships to each other at the front of the book.
The pacing was good, the plot plausible, and the characters were so well developed, I could almost swear they were real people…and that they were people I knew.
Ms. Simonson also writes the Lark Dodge series.
