When a man challenges Sherlock Holmes to a boxing match, he loses more than he expected. He loses his life. Was it an accident or something more sinister? While Scotland Yard considers the matter to be nothing more than a tragic accident, the 221B Baker Street trio suspects it was more than an accident, as does Inspector Lestrade.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this series, for me, besides telling a darn good story, is that the author takes a premise that I know isn't "true," and makes me believe that it is. Mrs. Hudson is the brains behind the consulting detective agency fronted by Sherlock Holmes? Why not? Why not, indeed.
One need not be a Sherlock Holmes fan in order to find MRS. HUDSON IN THE RING a compelling and enjoyable read. The author weaves his vast knowledge of 19th century history into the storyline in just the right amounts; enough to inform but not bog down the story. The author has an engaging writing style.
I've said this before. Some enterprising TV producer is missing out on a potentially great TV mystery series! Acorn, PBS...are you listening?
MRS. HUDSON IN THE RING is the third book in the Mrs. Hudson of Baker Street series. Each new book surpasses the others. I've enjoyed all three books but MRS. HUDSON IN THE RING is the best, so far. I'm already looking forward to number four!
Previous titles in the Mrs. Hudson of Baker Street series are: THE UNPLEASANTNESS AT PARKERTON MANOR and MRS. HUDSON AND THE IRISH INVINCIBLES.
