Newly-wed and recently undead vampire Sarah Dearly and her hunky master vamp hubby Thierry de Bennicoeur had planned to honeymoon in a sunny clime with palm trees and umbrella drinks, but instead they find themselves in a hokey bed and breakfast in Salem, Massachusets.
After a tasteful Las Vegas wedding, complete with Elvis impersonator, Thierry, a consultant for the Ring, the council of vampires, is given an assignment in the bewitching city. A vampire serial killer is on the loose, and Thierry must find the killer and put a permanent stop to his murderous spree.
Alas, he is soon put out of commission, and it is up to Sarah, with the help of some other-worldly help, to save him and solve the crime. She does a bit of time-traveling along the way, and uncovers some troubling secrets from her much-older husband's checkered past, but she's tough and resourceful and totally in love, so she can handle whatever comes her way.
This is the second in the Immortality Bites series, and it is just as delightful and entertaining and funny as the first, BLOOD, BATH AND BEYOND. The characters are great, be they vampires, witches, ghouls or ghosties or other things that go bump in the night. The setting of Salem, both modern and ancient, is vivid, with an enjoyable pinch of history thrown in. I look forward to the next book in the series, FROM FEAR TO ETERNITY, in the summer of 2014.
