This is the fifth book in the "Do-It-Yourself" mystery series by Bentley. However, it is the first book of the series that I've read.

The setting is Waterfield, Maine. Avery and her boyfriend are renovating a cottage belonging to local news anchor Tony Micelli. The make-over is scheduled to be filmed for a home-renovation TV show. Unfortunately, complications arise when Tony's dead body is found at the cottage. It seems that several people wanted Tony dead. As all good amateur sleuths want to do, Avery intends to find out the identity of the killer before there are anymore victims.

To be honest, the DIY aspect is what attracted me to this book. I love those DIY shows on cable TV, even though I never get around to actually doing any of the projects, though my house certainly could use some renovation! I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I took to the characters, especially since I'm not a big fan of amateur sleuth duos, especially boyfriends. I liked that Avery was plucky and sassy. Her boyfriend Derek was a good complimentary balance, personality wise. The author did an excellent job of creating fun, likable characters. The mystery was adequate enough to satisy most cozy readers. I do intend to pick up the other books in the series and read them all.

Home-renovation and design tips are included.

Previous titles in the series are: FATAL FIXER-UPPER, SPACKLED AND SPOOKED, PLASTER AND POISON, and MORTAR AND MURDER.
