ASSASSINS starring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, and Julianne Moore. Directed by Richard Donner.

Local critics hated this one. They claimed there wasn't much real action and that audiences would fall asleep. Well, the guy sitting behind me did fall asleep, about a third of the way through the film. He shifted around in his seat, kicked my seat, and snored for what seemed like hours but the rest of us stayed awake and watched.

Stallone is the hit man who wants to retire. Banderas is the hot young guy out to make a name for himself, and how better to do that than to take out the number one guy, Stallone? Banderas's quirky character really has to carry the story, and he does it very well. As a thriller, it wasn't very intense, but it was fun.

I am not a Stallone fan so my expectations were low. I found him believable enough as a hired gun who has lost his taste for the game. My only quibble is with the casting of Julianne Moore as the hi-tech thief. Had I been Stallone's character, I would have shot her within minutes of meeting her. As it was, I was rooting for Banderas to shoot her if Stallone wasn't going to. Heck, I'd have even settled for having her run over by a bus or a taxi.
